The topix.net was very useful when searching for news feeds as it helped locate the most recent news feeds based on the keywords used.

I didn't think I would reach the end of this exercise. It was a roller coaster drive but I learn t many new things along the way.I did not know there are so many websites and informative services to look at. I am glad I completed the course thankyou

I went through the ebooks on the netlibrary. I would like to read the title: Animated Man:A Life of Walt Disney. This was written by Barrier, J. Michael. It gives an insight into the life and works of Walt Disney.

I went to podcast.net. Then went to the library channel. It is a good source of information . It gives round table discussions, announcements and tips in the latest trends for research libraries. The other one I liked is the Montana Fish, Wildlife and parks Video Library. It has informative videos on different topics.

Exercise 20

The site You Tube has audio and visual videos.ranging from amateur to professional in quality. I dislike the site as there is poor quality control. however popular videos are listed.
I chose the video "Yumi Attacks Macdonald's" as it is a contemporary issue. One woman takes on a giant like Macdonald as she believes in what she is doing and and is unafraid.
You tube would be good in libraries as a video introduction to library and their staff and also a good place to put library events on to videos.

Exercise 19

Picasa is a free software download from Google. It helps to locate and organise all the photos on your computer. We can edit and add effects to the photos. then photos can be shared via e-mail, prints and on the web. In short it is free, fast and easy. A very wide audience can see the photographs.
The only disadvantage for this tool is it is difficult to maintain total privacy for the photos as not all the photos downloaded have taken permission from the owners.
Can make a pictorial catalogue of best sellers etc. in a library setting or for making it more interesting for induction of new staff members in the library.

Exercise 18

I composed an article on my trip to India and my visit to the Taj. I would like to have used the smiley feature at the end but I had already saved it. I used the bold and underline functions. I think Zoho writer is very effective.

Exercise 16

A best practices Wiki was created as a one shop to meet all the needs of librarians. Many people dont know about what others have done in the library. This is a good way to collect and organize information in one place. There are different categories in an alphabetical list etc

the Read/write Web and Lib2 plans for their users. It allows users access from home, school or at the library. It plans on how to use technology to the advantage of users. The learning experience is increased . It creates policies to make it more useable to users.

it gives top favorite blogs, top searches and top blogs.
There is the latest news and entertainment on it. Blogs are split into Front page, Business entertainment ,lifestyle, politics, sports and technology.

Exercise 6

had a look at Map pr and Flick r photos. Had a look at some beautiful photos. Saw the tags at the side and the comments posted by various people . It was interesting to see their comments. It is a very useful site and people can share so many photos and experiences as well. I liked the one of Scotland with an autumn scene with beautiful leaves and lovely colors.

I think it would be a very useful tool to get specific information about things and easy to access from anywhere. i liked the one on pipes. lots of people seem interested in it. i would like to spend more time on this.

Week2/Thing4

I had a friend e-mail to tell me to sign up for face book and I hadn't because I thought I couldn't do it . But today I did manage to register with my manager Wendy Andrew's help and was elated about my little progress.Ieven found the friend who had asked me to join and sent him an e-mail. I think it's a great site to meet people you havent in a long time . Might meet some new friends.

My brain, in today's world

I have this constant battle with an intelligent brain trying to cope with the quick moving technologies of the modern world. I don't know if anyone else faces the same problem; but I sure do. Just as I think I have grappled with one problem on the computer and sorted how to work around it , another one pops up like the seven headed monsters of lore. The variety of mobile phones and the services they offer are so mind boggling I don't know where to start. Anyway I shall call it a day to my moaning, and rest my poor brain tonight before I start on the next post on blogging.
